Botanical Water, also known as hydrolat, flower water, and Hydrosol is aromatic water resulting from distilling plant material. Springwater is mixed with plant material and brought to a boil. The high temperature creates steam and that steam is pressurized and moves through fresh-picked plant material in the next phase of distilling. As the steam moves through the plant material, phytochemicals and essential oils release into a third phase where cold water is introduced and convert the steam, oil, and water with plant constituents. As the steam drops in temperature, it is reduced back into liquid form. This time, however, it includes essential oils and plant compounds. One interesting thing to note about Hydrosols is that they don't necessarily match their essential oil counterpart in terms of aroma. This is most likely because hydrosols also include plant material. Ultimately, Botanical Water includes different properties of the plant that come with added benefits and no chemical additives.
